Purple bars (“Color” responses) represent the proportion of participants who relied on descriptions of color (i.e. hair or shirt color) to describe the referent. Dark blue bars (the “has [target item]” responses) on the “referent has item” trials represent affirmative descriptions of the target item (i.e. the “true positive” responses in Figure 7 and teal bars (the “has no [target item]” responses) on the “referent has nothing” trials represent negative descriptions of the absence of target items (i.e. the “true negative” responses in Figure 7).
