“Ask a Slave” and Interpreting Race on Public History’s Front Line: Interview with Azie Mira Dungey

Azie Mira Dungey is a graduate of NYU, and works as an actress based out of southern California. She has worked as a living history interpreter at the Smithsonian Museum of American History and at Mount Vernon. Her web series, “Ask a Slave” was nominated for a 2013 Satellite Award.

Amy M. Tyson is an Associate Professor of History at DePaul University. Her book The Wages of History: Emotional Labor on Public History’s Front Lines (University of Massachusetts Press, 2013), examines the emotional rewards of historical interpretation, and the emotional toll of interpreting painful histories in living history contexts.
