Excerpts from three oral-history transcripts describe life, people, and places in the agricultural era of the San Fernando Valley, 1860s–1930s. The recorded memories of Catherine Hubbard Dace, Anna Margaret (“Queenie”) Billings, and Jessie Grey Murphy contain common themes that flesh out the challenges, lifestyles, and development of the northern half of the Valley.
