This year, NCOBPS lost a founding member and trailblazer in the fields of African politics and Black women in politics. Dr. Mae C. King, Professor Emerita of Political Science at Howard University, passed away on November 4, 2022. Dr. King’s scholarship, professional service, and personal example left an indelible impression on generations of political scientists. Upon her passing, former NCOBPS president David Covin, who himself recently passed away,1 noted in a personal email to an NRBP editor that her example as the only Black graduate student at the University of Idaho was an inspiration to him as one of the few Black graduate students at Washington State University. “Mae was an amazing scholar, a sharp thinker, and she didn't suffer fools gladly,” he wrote. “She had a deep and centered investment in Black people and Black scholarship.…She informed my life, as well as the lives of many of her...
