Gowan Dawson is Professor of Victorian Literature and Culture in the Victorian Studies Centre at the University of Leicester. He is the author of Darwin, Literature and Victorian Respectability (2007) and Show Me the Bone: Reconstructing Prehistoric Monsters in Nineteenth-Century Britain and America (2016), and is recently coeditor, with Bernard Lightman, Sally Shuttleworth, and Jonathan R. Topham, of Science Periodicals in Nineteenth-Century Britain: Constructing Scientific Communities (2020). He is currently writing a new book tentatively titled “Grotesque Procession to March of Progress: The Secret History of Evolution’s Icon.”
