Daniel Bivona, Associate Professor of English at Arizona State University, is the author of Desire and Contradiction: Imperial Visions and Domestic Debates in Victorian Literature (1990), British Imperial Literature: Writing and the Administration of Empire, 1870 to 1940 (1998), and The Imagination of Class: Masculinity and the Victorian Urban Poor (2006, coauthored with Roger B. Henkle). He is currently at work on a monograph tentatively titled “The Natural and Social History of Pluck: Character and Competition in the Nineteenth Century.”
