Este artículo discute el proceso de ficcionalización que ocurre en la confección de narrativas del pasado colectivo en las telenovelas históricas mexicanas de los ochenta y noventa, subrayando las convergencias estructurales entre la elaboración de un texto no ficcional y la telenovela tradicional. Considerando el potencial y, al mismo tiempo, las limitaciones del género, la telenovela histórica se erige como conexión renovada y significativa del pasado con el espectador que nos apremia a repensar nuestros conceptos de ‘historia’ y de ‘ficción’; que llama nuestra atención sobre las complicaciones de estructurar en un relato hechos y personajes del pasado; y, que nos exhorta a reflexionar sobre las maneras en que se han construido y diseminado versiones previas de la historia de México. This article talks about the process of fictionalization in the narratives of the collective past in historical telenovelas in Mexico in the 1980s and 1990s emphasizing the correlations between the writing of a non fictional texts and the traditional telenovela . Considering the potential and, at the same time, the limitations of this TV genre, historical telenovelas can be seen as a meaningful and renewed connection between the past and the spectator, as a compelling call to revisit our concept of ‘history’ and ‘fiction’; to attend to the complex process of narrating past events and heroes; and as a reflection about the ways in which previous versions of the history of Mexico have been constructed and disseminated.
