Abstract
Using original survey data, we analyze the factors contributing to participation and preferences in the 2018 Mexican election among the Mexican diaspora in the United States. Our empirical analysis of public-opinion data reveals that exposure to Mexican mass media is a significant predictor of voting from abroad among immigrants and US-born Mexicans. Diaspora voters’ feelings of efficacy, their assessments of Mexican democracy, and structural factors yield mixed effects on the vote from abroad and candidate preferences. The study’s design also allows for comparison of the transnational electoral preferences of Mexican emigrants and US-born dual nationals.

Abstract
While in the thick of a revolutionary maelstrom, Mexico was the setting for animated debates centered on the direct implications that World War I might have on the nation’s future. Although its study has been largely ignored, analysis of the Great War is crucial for understanding Mexican thought during and after the conflict. In addition to offering a historiographical assessment, this work elaborates the scenes of said debates, identifies their most decisive moment during the year 1917, and analyzes their evolution in three of their principle forums: the press, the Legislative Branch, and student assemblies.

Abstract
This study considers the effect that gestures of goodwill from state officials have on political attitudes in post-PRI Mexico. A field experiment was conducted in the state of Baja California in which randomly selected individuals in the treatment group received a short letter from the state designed to improve residents' evaluation of government efforts to rehabilitate their neighborhoods. Overall, this study finds that a gesture of goodwill has a mixed effect on political attitudes relevant to democracy. While the treatment has a negative effect on levels of efficacy and evaluations of government performance, it also has a positive effect on willingness to become more involved in politics.
