I am pleased to introduce the MS/EM 37, no. 3 issue. While by now we expected that the COVID-19 pandemic would have passed, it is still lingering and complicating the lives of colleagues and scholars who engage with us. I thank them for keeping on track and for their patience with delays in moving along with their manuscripts.
As 2021 approached, the editorial committee planned the publication of a thematic section centered on Mexico’s bicentennial of independence. Rather than just an acknowledgment of its historical significance, the goal was to invite authors to present new materials that contributed new knowledge to the history of independence and/or, more significantly, challenged the established canon of its official history.
