Editor’s note: This is the third installment, following the Exhibition Roundtable “Curating for Whom?” (December 2020) and Wilfried Wang’s essay on Eileen Gray, E.1027 Master Bedroom, 1:1 Installation (June 2021), in an ongoing series of essays presenting exhibition curators’ voices. The purpose of these essays is to pull back the curtain to reveal the work and ideas that go into the planning and execution of exhibitions. As anyone who has ever tackled such a project knows, contingencies inevitably arise and decisions are made that are not necessarily evident in the final staging. Rather than keeping these “hidden” in the archive, we hope to engage the people who shape curatorial practices and share their perspectives with our readers.
