Arriving at the Doing Autoethnography Conference on a sunny day in St. Pete Beach, Florida, we saw an inviting table of autoethnographic books. Among the books, Therapy, Stand-up, and the Gesture of Writing by Jonathan Wyatt caught our attention. As doctoral students, we cannot resist books, and books about writing are like magnets. We accepted a call to adventure and volunteered to review the book for the Journal of Autoethnography.

We will start by saying that this book is not for the uninitiated. While Karen’s research interests center on academic writing, she has been coming to writing from a cognitive and pedagogical viewpoint. Tram Anh, as an international doctoral student, focuses on the writing experiences of people who use English as their second language.
