James Farrer is a professor of sociology at Sophia University. He is author of International Migrants in China’s Global City: The New Shanghailanders (Routledge, 2019) and coeditor of The Global Japanese Restaurant: Mobilities, Imaginaries and Politics (Hawaiʻi, 2023). His current research is on the globalization of Japanese restaurants and changing neighborhood foodways in Tokyo.
