Special Collection: Diversity: Conceptualizations and Contestations

EDITORS:
Stefan Bargheer, University of Aarhus, Denmark
Hagen Schulz-Forberg, University of Aarhus, Denmark

This special collection gathers scholars with expertise in diversity in various scientific disciplines and policy areas, ranging from biodiversity conservation and the protection of cultural heritage, to affirmative action and civil rights legislation as well as theories of democracy and liberal political thought. While diversity is central to a variety of scientific debates and has a substantial impact on a number of different policy areas, comparatively little research looks at diversity across domains. The collection fosters an interdisciplinary dialogue on diversity and traces both differences and communalities in theoretical conceptualization, empirical measurement, and policy implementation. The articles gathered have a number of points in common. In particular, core questions are shared. They cluster around three main themes:

  • How is diversity valued?
  • What are the most decisive temporal aspects?
  • What are the most decisive relational aspects?
