Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is University Professor at Columbia University, and the 2012 Kyoto Prize Laureate in Arts and Philosophy. She trains teachers and guides ecological agriculture in the western Birbhum district of West Bengal, India. She is a daughter of feminist parents, and deeply involved in feminism across the spectrum. Her most recent books include Other Asias (Blackwell, 2003), An Aesthetic Education in an Era of Globalization (Harvard University Press, 2012), and Readings (University of Chicago Press, October 2014).
