RICHARD ASCARATE is finishing his dissertation on the representation of Latin Americans in German literature and film, beginning with the early modern travel narrative of German conquistador Hans Staden, continuing through the scientific works of Alexander von Humboldt, and ending with the work of Werner Herzog.
