A Personal and Social Transformation: UC Berkeley and the Third World Strike of 1969

Jeffrey Thomas Leong grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and completed his BA and JD degrees at the University of California, Berkeley. Leong participated in the 1969 TWLF student-led strike at UC Berkeley and helped to found the Asian American Studies program in the 1970s. After teaching English as a Second Language in high school, he worked for thirty years as a public health administrator and attorney for the City of San Francisco. An independent scholar, in 2018, he published his first book, Wild Geese Sorrow: The Chinese Wall Inscriptions at Angel Island, a collection of translated wall poems from the Angel Island Immigration Station and winner of a Northern California Book Award.
