The author uses his long experience with his departmental theatre as a way to consider Howard Barker's valorization of the theatre door and Herbert Blau's notion of the stage edge, particularly in relationship to the theme of this special issue: thresholds.
A Knock at the Door: Speculations on Theatres and Thresholds
Craig Gingrich-Philbrook is Associate Professor of Performance Studies in the Department of Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he holds the William and Galia Minor Professorship in Creative Communication. A past winner of the Leslie Irene Coger Award for Distinguished Performance from the National Communication Association, he teaches courses in performance studies and philosophy of communication.
