I wrote this for Bird as a response to the Sweetwater panel I both witnessed and participated in at the 10th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry conference at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. As the editor of the Peter Lang book series “What's Going On: Black Studies and the Arts,” I had a particular interest in immersing myself in this tribute to one of my authors. The poem is both an investigation of and reflection of that moment.
