A Chair Is Still a Chair: Fat Students, Campus Environments, and Body Terrorism

Terah J. Stewart, PhD (he/him) is an Associate Professor of Higher Education and Student Affairs at Iowa State University. His research and writing focus on people, populations, and concepts in the margins of margins. Topics include sex work and erotic labor in higher education, fatphobia, sizeism, and anti-fat bias in higher education, antiblackness in non-Black communities of color, and identity-based student activism.

Roshaunda L. Breeden, PhD (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education Opportunity, Equity, and Justice in the College of Education at North Carolina State University. Her practice and research interests revolve around equity and justice for Black students, families, and communities; fat students on campus; and first-generation and low-income students.

Erin R. Weston, PhD (she/her) is an Assistant Director in the Office for Student Success and Achievement at the University of Georgia. Her research interests include white racial identity development, anti-racism in higher education, and the experiences of fat college students.

Meg E. Evans, PhD (they-) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership at the University of Memphis. Before serving in this role, Meg worked in student affairs for over a decade, primarily in LGBTQ centers and residence life. As a critical scholar, Meg loves to collaborate in their scholarship, which focuses on advocacy, activism, and resistance on college campuses.

Daniel J. Scanlon (he/him) is a PhD student in Higher Education at Iowa State University. He is a Graduate Research Assistant currently examining the experiences of marginalized students. His areas of interest include the experiences of underrepresented student populations, equality in access to higher education, and student support network development.

Joan Collier, PhD (she/her) is Assistant Vice President for Equity and Inclusion at Rutgers University. Her research and practice interests revolve around fuller inclusion of underrepresented populations on campus including Black graduate women at historically white institutions, LGB student spirituality, students on the autism spectrum, and fat students on campus.
