Arturo Valenzuela, a Current History contributing editor, is professor of government and director of the Center for Latin American Studies at Georgetown University. He is the author of several books on Chile, including The Breakdown of Democratic Regimes: Chile (Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1978) and, with Pamela Constable, A Nation of Enemies: Chile Under Pinochet (New York: Norton, 1993).
