The Afghan Morass

Thomas Barfield is chairman of the department of anthropology at Boston University. He is the author of The Central Asian Arabs of Afghanistan: Pastoral Nomadism in Transition (Austin: University of Texas Press, 1981) and coauthor, with Albert Szabo, of Afghanistan: An Atlas of Indigenous Domestic Architecture (Austin: University of Texas Press, 1991).
