Joseph Fewsmith is an associate professor of international relations and director of the East Asian interdisciplinary studies program at Boston University. He is the author of Party, State, and Local Elites in Republican China (Honolulu: University of Hawaii Press, 1985) and Dilemmas of Reform in China: Economic Debate and Political Conflict (Armonk, N.Y.: M. E. Sharpe, 1994), and editor of the journal Chinese Economic Studies.
