Bruce Cumings is John Evans Professor of International History and Politics at Northwestern University, where he directs the Center for International and Comparative Studies. He has also taught at Swarthmore College, the University of Washington, and the University of Chicago. He is the author of The Origins of the Korean War, two vols. (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1981 and 1990), War and Television (London: Verso, 1992), and the forthcoming Korea’s Place in the Sun: A Modem History (New York: Norton, 1995).
