Rashid I. Khalidi teaches modern Middle Eastern history at the University of Chicago, where he is associate director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. He is the author of British Policy towards Syria and Palestine (Oxford: St. Antony’s Middle East Monographs, 1990) and Under Siege: PLO Decision Making during the 1982 War (New York: Columbia University Press, 1986), and coeditor of Palestine and the Gulf (Beirut: Institute for Palestine Studies, 1982) and The Origins of Arab Nationalism (New York: Columbia University Press, forthcoming).
