George Joffe is consultant editor for the Middle East and North Africa at The Economist Intelligence Unit. He is the author of more than 40 articles on North Africa and Middle Eastern history and current affairs and the coauthor (with K.S. McLachlan) of four studies of the Gulf War. He is currently writing a biography of Colonel Qaddafi and a contemporary history of North Africa.
