Douglas Pike teaches in the history department at the University of California (Berkeley) and is editor of Indochina Chronology, a quarterly devoted to contemporary and historical Indochina. His most recent book is Vietnam and the U. S. S. R. : Anatomy of an Alliance (Boulder: Westview Press, 1988).
