Romania: Neo-Stalinism in Search of Legitimacy

Walter M. Bacon, Jr., is immediate past president of the Central Slavic Conference and a former vice president of the Society for Romanian Studies. He is the editor/translator of Behind Closed Doors: Secret Papers on the Failure of Romanian-Soviet Negotiations, 1931-1932 (Stanford: Hoover Institution Press, 1979), and has written articles and chapters in American and European periodicals and collections on Romanian civil-military relations and Romanian diplomacy.
