O. Edmund Clubb, a contributing editor of Current History, spent 18 years in China with the United States Foreign Service. He has been Consul General in Vladivostok, the U.S.S.R.; Mukden and Changchun, Manchuria; and in Peking, China. From 1950 to 1952, he was director of Chinese affairs in the Department of State. Mr. Clubb is the author of China and Russia: The “Great Came” (New York: Columbia University Press, 1971), and Twentieth Century China (New York: Columbia University Press, revised edition, 1972).
