J. P. Whitaker, a young Englishman, ivas at Roubaix in Northern France on business when the Germans unexpectedly invaded that region in September, 19H. After passing two and a half years there under German military rule, he escaped in March, 1917, by way of Belgium and Holland, and wrote an interesting account of his experiences for The London Times.
