O. Edmund Clubb spent 18 years in China with the U.S. Foreign Service. He has been Consul General in Vladivostok, the U.S.S.R.; Mukden and Changchun, Manchuria; and in Peking, China. From 1950 to 1952, he was Director of Chinese Affairs in the Department of State. Clubb is the author of China and Russia: The Great Game (New York: Columbia University Press, 1971), and Twentieth Century China (New York: Columbia University Press, 1964), He has taught at various universities.
