William G. Shade has published on a variety of subjects related to early American social and political history. His articles have appeared in Mid-America, The Journal of American History, and The Journal of Inter-disciplinary History and his books include Seven on Black: Reflections on the Negro Experience in America (Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Co., 1969), Our American Sisters: Women in American Life and Thought (Rockleigh, N.J.: Allyn and Bacon, Inc., 1973), and Banks or No Banks: The Money Question in the Western States, 1832–1865 (Detroit: Wayne State University Press, 1973). During 1972–1973 he was a visiting associate professor of history at the University of Virginia.
