The Strategic Balance in East Asia

Martin E. Weinstein has been a research associate and executive editor of Columbia University’s East Asian Institute. After serving in Japan with the United States Air Force for three years, he returned to Tokyo in 1967-1968 for research on Japan’s defense policy.He is the author of Japan’s Postwar Defense Policy, 1947-1968 (New York: Columbia University Press, 1971). He is presently on leave of absence with the Brookings Institution, working on a book on current United States-Japanese relations.
