Raymond A. Mohl specializes in American urban and social welfare history. He is the author of Poverty in New York, 1783–1825 (New York: Oxford University Press, 1971), co-author of The Urban Experience: Themes in American History (Belmont, Calif.: Wadsworth Publishing Co., 1973), and coeditor of Urban America in Historical Perspective (New York: Weybright and Talley, 1970). He is the general editor of the Urban Studies series published by Kennikat Press. During the 1972–1973 academic year, he held a Younger Humanist Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
