John P. Conrad was formerly chief of the research division of the California Department of Corrections. On leave from official duties, he was a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the London School of Economics in 1958–1959, and was associate director of the International Survey of Corrections in 1960–1961. He is the author of Crime and its Correction (Berkeley, Calif.: University of California Press, 1960), and of numerous magazine articles.
