Benedict R. Anderson is the assistant director of the Cornell Modern Indonesia Project. He has done extensive field work in Indonesia, having spent the years from 1962 to 1964 there, with two subsequent visits in 1967 and in 1968. He has published articles in scholarly journals on “Some Aspects of Indonesian Politics under the Japanese Occupation” and on “Mythology and the Tolerance of the Javanese.” He is currently completing a book on the origins of the revolution in Indonesia which is scheduled for publication later this year.
