Robert L. West is Director of the International Development Studies Program at the Fletcher School. In 1960–1961, he served as financial adviser on loan from M.I.T. to the United Nations Organization in the Congo. He was U.S.A.I.D. mission director at the U.S. embassy in Leopoldville in 1962–1963; and the next year he was visiting professor of economics at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He has written extensively on African economic problems.
