Worm’s-Eye-View: When Bombs Fall, the Victims Are Usually Steadfast but Their Reactions Are Unpredictable

Eric Sevareid, CBS correspondent, was born in Minneapolis thirty years ago. His first job was as a reporter with The Minneapolis Journal when he was eighteen. He was a student columnist for 130 college papers while attending the University of Minnesota. Later he studied at the University of London and the Sorbonne, Paris, and was night editor for the United Press in the latter city.

Joining Columbia’s staff in Paris, he remained there until the French government’s evacuation, at which time he accompanied the administration to Vichy and then transferred to CBS in London. Mr. Sevareid is married and the father of twin boys.
