Karl de Schweinitz, Jr. has been teaching and researching in the fields of comparative economics and economic development at Northwestern University since 1949. He lived in Japan in 1963 and 1964, studying the degree of industrialization and political modernization during the Meiji era. His most recent publication is Industrialization and Democracy (New York: The Free Press, 1964).
