Vaclav E. Mares, native of Czechoslovakia, came to the United States on a diplomatic mission for his home country following World War II. In 1948, he resigned from governmental service and joined the faculty of the Pennsylvania State University where he has been teaching ever since in the area of international economics. Inpast years, on his frequent research and lecture trips to Europe, Mr. Mares has studied regional development problems and policies in various European countries andhas written articles on this subject for this and other American magazines.
