Claude E. Welch specializes in African politics. He spent 1963–1964 in West Africa under the sponsorship of the Foreign Area Fellowship Program. In the summer of 1965, he did field research on the development of political parties in French-speaking West Africa under a grant from the National Science Foundation. His book, Dream of Unity: Pan-Africanism and Political Unification in West Africa, will be published by Cornell University Press shortly.
