John F. Melby was a U. S. Foreign Service Officer from 1937 to 1953, with service in Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Soviet Union, China and Washington. In 1954—1955, he was research associate in Southeast Asian Studies at Yale University in New Haven. He was director of foreign students and a lecturer in political science at the University of Pennsylvania from 1958 to 1964. In addition to his present duties with the National Council on Asian Affairs, Mr. Melby is a free-lance writer on world affairs.
