Edward B. Shils, in addition to his academic duties, is active as a labor consultant, arbitrator and negotiator. He served as consultant to the apparel industry in Philadelphia for 11 years, often negotiating with the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union on behalf of some 50 knitting mills in the area. In 1958, he directed a study of State Development Credit Corporations for the Small Business Administration. Dr. Shils is the author of numerous articles and several books, the most recent of which is Automation and Industrial Relations (New York: Holt, Rine hart and Winston, 1963).
