Hans Rogger is director of the Russian and East European Studies Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author of National Consciousness in 18th Century Russia (Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1960) and, with Eugen Weber, of The European Right, a Historical Profile, soon to be published by the University of California Press. He is a contributor to scholarly journals in the United States and abroad, including Comparative Studies in Society and History, Journal of Modem History, Soviet Studies, California Slavic Studies, and Harvard Slavic Studies.
