Alvin J. Cottrell was a member of the Political Science Department at the University of Pennsylvania prior to joining the Institute for Defense Analyses in Washington, D.C. in 1960. During a leave of absence, he recently served as Professor of Foreign Affairs at the National War College. In his function as an analyst and writer of political and military affairs, Dr. Cottrell has co-authored several books: American-Asian Tensions (New York: Praeger, 1956), Protracted Conflict (New York: Harper, 1959) and, most recently, The Politics of the Atlantic Alliance (London and New York: Pall Mall and Praeger, 1964).
