Theodore Herman is Chairman of the Department of Geography at Colgate University, and of the Committee on Chinese Geography, Association of American Geographers. He lived in China for 12 years, from 1936 to 1948, part of the time working in villages in south China with the Chinese Industrial Cooperatives. He has written on China for geographical journals and taught at the Universities of Washington, British Columbia, and Syracuse.
