Carlos P. Romulo, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, soldier, author and statesman, has been the Philippine ambassador to the United States since 1955. Before that he was secretary of foreign affairs and his country’s chief delegate to the United Nations; in 1949 he was elected president of the Fourth General Assembly of the United Nations and in 1957 he was twice president of the U.N. Security Council. During World War II he served with General Douglas MacArthur, and was several times cited for gallantry in action. His many books include I Saw the Fall of the Philippines, Mother America, Crusade in Asia, The United, The Magsaysay Story, The Meaning of Bandung, Friend to Friend, I Walked with Heroes.
