During World War II, Julian Towster served as a political analyst with the Department of Justice, Office of Strategic Services and the Department of State. He later became Chief of the Foreign Political Section of the East European branch in the Office of Research and Intelligence, Department of State. He taught at the University of Chicago from 194-7 to 1949. In 1935 he visited the Soviet Union and returned in the summer of 1957 to spend some time there and in Poland and Czechoslovakia. His books include Political Power in the U.S.S.R. and European Political Systems.
