The South and Its History

Fletcher M. Green is Kenan Professor of History in addition to his duties as chairman of the department. He is past president of the Southern Historical Association and the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association and has served on the Executive Council of the Mississippi Valley Historical Association. Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Sprunt Studies since 1953, he has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Southern History and the Mississippi Valley Historical Review. His books include Constitutional Development in the South Atlantic States 1776-1860 and Essays in Southern History. In 1957, Emory University presented him with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
