Francis Butler Simkins, a Guggenheim Fellow, has also been Visiting Professor at Louisiana State and Princeton Universities. A native of South Carolina who specializes in Southern history, Mr. Simkins is the author of several books on this subject, including South Carolina during Reconstruction; The Women of the Confederacy; Pitchfork Ben Tillman: South Carolinian; The South Old and New; and A History of the South.
