Hugh M. Pollardis a long-time student of France’s universities and schools as evidenced in his book, Pioneers of Popular Education. During World War II, he served with British Intelligence; afterwards he was sent to Berlin to serve as headmaster of the secondary school for British children. In 1949 and 1950 he taught at the Austin Peay State College, Tennessee. After returning to England, he was appointed lecturer at Chester Training College and in 1956 he began his present association with the University of Sheffield.
